Learn how to turn on Windows Tablet PC Components in Windows 7/8/10.
What are Tablet PC Components?
Tablet PCs are notebook shaped computers that can accept input directly through the computer’s screen. Using your finger, a stylus, or other device, you can control Windows without using a keyboard or mouse.
Unlike previous versions of the operating system, Windows 7 and higher natively support tablet PCs and other computers that use touch screens as an input device. Shipping with Windows 7/8/10 is a collection of Tablet PC Components to help you get the most out of your tablet computer.
However, not all Windows computers come with the Tablet PC Components pre-installed. If you installed the operating system yourself, you may have forgotten to install them or used an express install that didn’t install them by default.
If you own a tablet PC, get the most out of your computer by turning on Windows Tablet PC Components.

Begin by logging in to Windows with an account that has administrative privileges. Then, click on Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
To the right of the window, click on the link titled Turn Windows Features On or Off. In Windows 10, just click on Start and type in “turn windows” and select the first option.
You should now be looking at the Turn Windows Features On or Off window. Here is where you can install or uninstall Windows features. Which features you can turn on or off depends on the version of Windows you have installed on your computer.
Scroll down the list and locate a folder labeled Tablet PC Components. Note that since you don’t have the components turned on, there is no check mark next to the folder.
If you hover over the folder, Windows tells you which components will be installed if you check the box. Here is a list of those components:
- Tablet PC Input Panel
- Windows Journal
- Other Hand Writing Recognition Features
When you have clicked on the box next to the folder labeled Tablet PC Components, click the OK button and follow the onscreen directions. You may have to give administrative permission to install and/or turn on these components depending on which Windows features you are using on your PC.
Unfortunately, Microsoft does not allow you to choose which of the Tablet PC Components to turn on or off; they are either all available or all unavailable.
Still, if you have a tablet PC or a computer with a touch screen monitor, you will likely want to turn on all of the components to get the most out of interacting in Windows with all of the tablet features available.
Turning Tablet PC Components on or off on your computer is a simple matter. Although you don’t get the opportunity to choose exactly which components are turned on, you at least gain access to the most useful Windows tablet PC applications such as the Tablet PC Input Panel and the Hand Writing Recognition Features.
Troubleshooting Tablet PC Components
In some instances, you might run into issues if you are using a tablet PC. For example, my Tablet PC settings item in the Control Panel simply disappeared on my Surface Pro and I could no longer calibrate my pen.
In this case, you can try to create a new shortcut to Tablet PC Settings by right-clicking on the desktop and choosing New – Shortcut. For the location, copy and paste the following:
Give the shortcut an appropriate name like Tablet Settings and then click Finish. You should now be able to access the tablet settings. Enjoy!

I'm the owner of an HP Pavillion tx2120us tablet PC, which has a known problem of making the cursor jump to the lower right corner of the screen.
I've narrowed the problem down to the pen tablet function, since in Vista I was able to turn the tablet input process down, and the problem seemed to go away. It was a simple matter of just opening the task admin and killing the process.
However, as far as I can tell, I can't find the same process in Windows 7, and I have supposedly already turned the tablet functions via 'Start' -> 'Control Panel' > 'Programs and Features' > 'Turn Windows features on or off'. Yet after a reboot the screen still seems to react to the tablet pen.
How can I finally turn the darned tablet functions off (while still being able to re-enable them in the future)?
EDIT: I have also turned the service off and restarting, as suggested by outsideblasts, to no avail.

Go to Services (just windows search it) and see what the status is. Set it to manual or disabled. If it already is disabled then I don't know!

If you go to 'Control Panel' > 'Programs and Features' > 'Turn Windows features on or off', You can remove the Tablet PC Components.
I know this isn't as easy to turn on later - however, all Windows Vista/7 setup files are stored on your machine, so it should be quick and easy to re-enable at a later date.

You can also turn off the 'Tablet PC Components' feature at the command line, by running:

Finally, I found a way! It was a bit elaborate, but it works!
- I went to get the wacom driver for tablet PCs, downloaded the driver and installed it.
- I opened the task manager (right-click on the task bad on the bottom of the screen -> Task Manager)
- I selected the processes tab, and clicked on Show all user processes (I'm roughly translating this from spanish, so this might not be the exact wording) in the bottom left button.
- Then looked for both Pen_tablet.exe processes, right-clicked them and selected terminate process (again a rough translation from spanish).
And now the screen does not react to the pen. Free at last!
NOTE: This should apply to all tx2000 and tx2500 series out there, for which the heating causes so many issues.

Described Here are two options, especially for Windows 7 Home Premium users.
The link below shows how to disable a number of irritating Tablet PC functions on windows. It doesn't completely remove the Tablet PC feature though and is intead focused on minimizing the pain of experienced by users of pressure-sensitive tablets on Windows 7.
The first option is a simple tool that automatically makes all the changes.
The second option is a list of manual steps you can perform. In short those steps are:
- Install the latest driver: http://wacom.com/en/CustomerCare/Drivers.aspx
- Disable the Tablet PC Input Panel. Go here Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings > Other > Tablet PC Input Panel Settings. Uncheck all checkboxes. Press OK.
- Disable Flicks. Go here Control Panel > Pen and Touch > Flicks. Uncheck all checkboxes. Press OK.
- Disable Press and Hold. Go here Control Panel > Pen and Touch > Pen Options. Select Press and Hold click Settings. Uncheck Enable press and hold for right-clicking. Press OK.
- Disable Dynamic Feedback. This requires a registry change because there is no Control Panel UI for this in Windows 7. Go to this regkey [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftTabletPC] and set the value TurnOffPenFeedback to 1. The link has a .REG file you can use.
