My family has had this apartment for almost a decade and it has a dead security panel near the door. I'm leaving for college in January and leaving a stroke-disabled mother behind. Her cognitive abilities are damaged (so my reliance on her ability to think of a strategy goes out the window) and she's certainly not strong enough to fight anyone. We have a security guard that passes by all the apartment buildings, but I want to be extra cautious.

I unscrewed the keypad from the wall and am able to see that it's an 'XL4600RM Keypad.' I have found this manual but I'm not good with wiring and whatnot so I have no idea what it's talking about.
There are these white caps that are connected to four different colored wires (red, green, yellow, black). Inside of them are little metal 'mouths.'
